EEC|CCNY highschool Junior Research Associate, Yoo Shin Tanai, submits his study entitled Food Waste Energy Analysis to the Regeneron Science Talent Search

Yoo Shin Tanai is a junior from Ossining Highschool who joined the EEC|CCNY team last year.  Together with Professor Castaldi and his EEC mentors, Yoo Shin developed his project for the Regeneron STS to investigate how proximate analysis can be used as a method to determine energy available in different types of food found in food waste.  Yoo Shin collected food waste samples from his home and analyzed them in the EEC lab using techniques such as calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).  He submitted his final report to the Regeneron STS competition this December.   Good luck Yoo Shin!
