EPA releases official statement on handling of spent baghouse filters
EPA recently released an official statement on the handling of spent baghouse filters at municipal waste combustor facilities. EPA determined that combustion of spent baghouse filters at MWC facilities do not significantly impact emissions from the combustor. EEC|CCNY attributes part of EPA’s final decision to the White Paper that EEC|CCNY and ASME-MER submitted to the EPA in January 2014 on the environmental impact of fabric filter bag incineration. The findings of this technical investigation determined that emissions from the combustor increased by less than 0.2% when processing spent baghouse filters. The difference in emissions was immeasurable within the analytical detection limits of the typical monitoring systems for in-stack emissions therefore it was concluded that combustion of spent baghouse filters do not significantly impact emissions of the combustor.
