EEC|CCNY to conduct extensive study on the heating value of non-recycled plastics in municipal solid waste
EEC|CCNY recently finalized a proposal for a study that will determine the representative heating value of non-recycled plastics (NRP) in municipal solid waste (MSW) based on calorimetry testing. The motivation for this study is to address the major discrepancies that exist in the literature with regards to the energy content of NRP. Extensive calorimetry data will be collected for waste plastic samples of all resin types collected from MSW to determine the representative heating value of NRP. Additional objectives of this study will be to determine the impact that contamination, plastic resin type, and product type (film versus rigid) have on the heating value of NRP. This study will be sponsored by the American Chemistry Council.
